Project Overview
Our client, operating in the mining sector, approached Profluid to recalibrate and set the pressure of specialised Reset Relief (RR) valves. These valves play a crucial role in safeguarding mud pumps by preventing system over-pressurisation. Specifically designed to protect liners and other internal parts, these RR valves operate using a system of two helical compression springs.
These springs ensure that the valve remains closed under normal operating conditions but opens when the fluid pressure exceeds the set threshold, allowing the release of process fluid into a discharge line connected to a mud tank or pit. The valve’s balance beam mechanism, with different moment arms for the piston force and spring force, is key to its functionality.
While there are several designs of pressure relief valves, this specific model was optimised for the harsh conditions and unique requirements of mining applications. However, due to the varied types of mud used, the client required a recalibration of the valve to better suit their system’s operational needs.
